My name is Trent, I’m an artist and I’d love to come alongside you in your artistic ventures to help establish skills and refine the artistic eye so that you might better delight in your handiwork. Art is a timeless mode of reflecting culture, exploring and reasoning one’s outlook on the world, and is often a necessary practice to frame and understand life while capturing its beauty. Were you to join these classes, that is exactly what the goal would be—to equip you with the skills to capture and express the beauties and complexities of life.

WHAT WE’LL CREATE:

For group drawings we will draw/paint still lifes (objects), landscapes, and figures (human and animal); these will vary based on the class. However, I recognize that not everyone is interested in all of those categories—if you want to bring in a personal project that is perfectly fine.

TEACHING STYLE:

I am not a, “watch me work then copy my work” type of teacher but rather one who likes to work from where you are.  It is easier and more effective for me to teach from your current level rather than teach a mass group lesson. That said, class will look a lot like me walking around while you work, pointing out things to think on, try, and change. While you work and make changes I will walk around and work with others. To make sure you are given proper time I will limit class size to 6-8 max for painting and 8-10 max for drawing.

MY ARTISTIC STYLE:

Early on I focused on realism; animals and landscapes were my subjects and the majority of my work was charcoal, pen and ink, and acrylic. In college animals were exchanged for architectural renderings, stylized pop art, doodles, logo work, and digital painting. Currently I am a fan of surrealism, the fantastical, experimenting with color usage, and textures. I have recently found a joy in portraiture and am working often on my ‘people skills.’ My strong suits are in pen and ink, charcoal, and acrylic, though I have experience in nearly all dry and wet mediums.

THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

This class is not for you if are looking for a one time evening event. There are a couple of one—off, social painting classes that host parties in Waco and College Station if that’s what you are looking for. (However, there is no obligation to take more than one class. You are more than welcome to try it out, and if it’s not for you that’s okay.)

THIS CLASS IS FOR YOU IF:

This class is for you if you want to learn and refine the artistic process and product. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to paint/draw or are a seasoned artist who just wants to have an extra opinion on their process, I’d love to be the teacher working with you.
